Spirit and Song

Music is an integral part of Roman Catholic worship. The Roman Catholic liturgy follows a calendar of seasons and celebrations and the basic Order of Mass remains the same. Sung prayer is the normative mode of worship. The human voice is the original and most ancient instrument used to praise God.

Cantor, Organist, and Pianist

Simple auditions are held for people wanting to serve in these areas. At present, all are volunteer positions, scheduled by the Music Director. People gifted and trained in music are invited to audition. Instrument players - call the Music Office, (402) 339-3285.

Parish Choir

Our choir sings 4-part music, both contemporary and traditional, most often at the 9:00 AM Sunday Mass and for other large parish celebrations. Members must be in high school or older; there are no auditions. Rehearsals are Thursday nights, 7:00 - 8:30 PM, August through June, in the church worship space. Additional singers are always welcome.

Folk Choir

St. Columbkille Parish has a "folk" group, featuring contemporary music and accompanied by guitar, piano, and additional instruments. They sing the second Saturday of each month at the 5:00 PM Mass. For rehearsal information, call the Music Office, (402) 339-3285.

Select Choir

The Select Choir is a music ministry vocal group formed by auditioned members of the St. Columbkille Parish Choir. Madonna Nelson coordinates the group, and Candy Connery is their accompanist. They sing SATB accompanied and a capella compositions for parish Masses, holy days, parish events and organizations, weddings, "Mass for Shut-Ins" on WOWTV-6, Omaha’s NBC affiliate, and for other celebrations in the Omaha Archdiocese.

The group generally rehearses on Tuesday evenings, and the members generously make their music ministry a priority in their lives. To arrange for them to sing at YOUR event (there is a stipend requested), call the Music Office, (402) 339-3285.

Youth Choirs

All groups are directed by qualified music instructors.

Cherub Choir is for children already age 4 or 5, and/or in Kindergarten.

They practice Mondays, 3:30-4:00 PM in the church Social Level, September through April. They sing at Mass one Sunday each month and at a Mass for Christmas Eve/Christmas. Nicole Chambers directs the Cherub Choir.

Children's Choir is for children in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

There is a change in the format for Children’s Choir this year!

We will still be meeting on Monday afternoons in the Social Level; however, we will be divided into 2 choirs –one for K-3rd graders and one for 4th -6th graders.

Children in K-3rd will meet from 3:45 to 4:30 and children in 4th-6th will meet from 4:15 to 5:00.

They sing at Mass one Sunday each month and for Mass on Christmas Eve.

Junior Choir is for youth in 7th grade and older. In addition to singing one Sunday Mass each month they may sing at Care Homes and take other "field trips" to share their music ministry. They have an annual party and a caroling outing. They have sung for "Mass for Shut-Ins." They have participated in the Archdiocesan Children's Choir Festival.
