Novena to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fulfill the promise of our Savior, who would not leave us orphans.

Enter our minds and hearts just as you entered the minds and hearts of Mary and the disciples on that first Pentecost. Grant that we may receive the gifts which you so generously bestowed on them.

Take from our hearts all that is not pleasing to You and make them worthy dwelling places for Jesus.

Enlighten our minds that we may see and understand the things that are important for our eternal welfare.

Inflame our hearts with pure love of the Father that, cleansed from attachments to all unworthy objects our lives may be hidden with Jesus in God.

Strengthen our wills that they may be conformed to the will of God and be guided by His holy inspirations.

Descend upon us, O mighty Spirit, that inspired and encouraged by you, we may faithfully perform our duties, carry our daily crosses with patience and courage, and accomplish the Father’s will for us. Make us, day by day, more holy and give to us that heavenly peace which the world cannot give.

Holy Spirit, Giver of every good gift, grant us the intentions of this novena.

May 4 Come, Spirit of Understanding. Enlighten our minds to choose what is truly holy.	May 5 Come, Spirit of Counsel. Encourage us to speak the truth even in difficult situations.	May 6 Come, Spirit of Fortitude. Strengthen our desire to know and serve God and others.	May 7 Come, Spirit of Knowledge. Help us to experience a thirst to better understand and live our Faith.	May 8 Come, Spirit of Piety. Fill our lives with a holy desire to seek God in all things.	May 9 Come, Spirit of holy Fear. Let our lives be filled with holy reverence and awe.	May 10 Come, Holy Comforter. Open our lives to accept the things of earth ever mindful of the happiness and joy awaiting us in heaven.
