Building A Strong Foundation
Last week, Deacon Glenn and Linda Harmon gave our 2017 Lenten parish mission which was entitled “Building a Strong Foundation”.
The Harmons have dedicated their lives to full-time ministry. By faith, they are following a special call which has taken them throughout the Unites States and Canada, giving over 500 parish missions, retreats, seminars, conferences and workshops.
Jesus Christ used the common language of His time to reach all people.
Deacon Glenn and Linda’s style of preaching and teaching was very down to earth and practical. They believed that when we connect God and Church to our everyday lives, that is when it all becomes real and meaningful.
There was a simplicity and genuineness to their witness which allowed them to come across to all in attendance as a couple who has personally experienced the healing love of God.
They shared that we all want a strong spiritual foundation but at times, restlessness, loneliness, frustration, doubt, fear, regret, guilt, shame and various other obstacles get in the way. Over the 4-days and 5-sessions of the parish mission, they shared specific spiritual power tools that we can use to build a foundation in Jesus Christ.
The mission helped us identify what the tools are and how to effectively use them so we will have the abundant and blessed life that Jesus Christ came to give us, not just in heaven, but here on earth as well.
I believe that if all of us will use the many helpful ideas and spiritual principles that were outlined at the mission, we will be well on our way to more deeply understanding and living the promises of our Lord by building a spiritual foundation on the rock, the rock of Jesus Christ and our Catholic Church.
I wish to thank all those that attended this years parish mission and the many people that made it so successful, including Nicole Cook, Deacon Bill and Kathy Hill, who hosted the Harmons during their stay, as well as the various groups and people that provided childcare and the receptions.
