New Web Site
Welcome to Saint Columbkille Parish’s New Website
After 15 years of use, the old web server was getting difficult to maintain. We’ve migrated to this WordPress type of environment to keep showing you our content in a manner that you may be used to using.
A simple banner marks the top of the page that identifies our Parish and Mission with drop-down menus to the various pages on our site. If you’re using a computer, put the cursor over the category name and a menu item will drop-down and be highlighted as you chose the which page to visit. A drop-down menu item preceded by anwill show more links on a fly-out menu. The banner and menus will remain at the top to each page you visit. As you scroll down the page, the banner will minimize to the navigation bar only.
The Home-Page will display at least one photo or some message of importance. Generally, the photo could be from the cover of the weekly bulletin.
A column will then list ten of the most recent posts by date, newest first with a short title. Examples of items that will be posted are: the weekly letter from the pastor and the weekend homilies from the pastor or deacon.
The right-side column will list the calendar of events.
New to all pages is the Announcement Bar. The bar will show a title with an information tickler. Clicking MORE will open to show more information about the announcement. It may also have a link to another page or site.
If there are more than one announcement, each will scroll across the bottom of the page every few seconds. There are left-right arrows to change announcements at your own pace in either direction.
If the bar is too distracting, you can click the X to dock the announcement bar. Click the red tag to re-open the bar.
The footer has three widgets. One showing three of the most recent posts; another with contact information; and the last with Social Media links. The Social Media will take you to the Parish’s Twitter, Facebook, and Blog pages. The fourth item on the list is Today’s Mass readings.
Pop-out advertisements or items of interest will eventually be added to various pages. This plug-in was just released and we’ve not had a chance to test its capabilities.
Around 50% of our visitors are using mobile browsers. This new site should be more responsive when using smartphones or tablets. We’ve not be able to test this yet.
