Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion distribute the Eucharist at Mass.

In the Archdiocese of Omaha, Catholic men and women who are high school juniors or older and have received the sacrament of Confirmation are eligible to serve as EMHCs. Candidates must be recommended by the Pastor, received formal archdiocesan instruction, and by mandated by the archbishop. This procedure takes place annually in late summer. The archbishop’s mandation is only valid for service within the Archdiocese of Omaha. Those who have served in another diocese can make a special request to serve in this archdiocese.

In St. Columbkille Parish, EMHCs serve at Masses, on holy days, and at other parish Eucharistic celebrations. They may also take Holy Communion to the sick and the homebound.
