What is St. Columbkille Crusaders Select Baseball?
The St. Columbkille Crusaders Select Baseball Program will have teams at the 9U-13U USSSA levels for the 2019 season. Age levels are based on the age the player will be on April 30, 2019. Players are allowed to play up to two age levels above their actual age (so a 9 year old can play 11U, etc.) if the coach believes the player has the necessary skill and maturity levels, but not down an age level (so if a player turns 12 before April 30th he cannot play on the 11U team). Player fees are dependent upon how many games and tournaments the respective teams decide to play, but will not exceed $500 for the year, plus uniforms, which are around $100. Most teams play about 20-25 individual midweek games and 3-5 tournaments, usually one per month plus the end of year USSSA state tournament, adding up to around 30-40 games for the season, which lasts from the beginning of April through mid-July. Teams usually have off-season workouts for about an hour a week starting in November, then increasing in frequency and length in March. Home games are played at our field complex on 84th Street and Fairview, and off season workouts usually are in the St. Columbkille gym or other local indoor facilities. Midweek games and tournaments generally are in the Omaha area unless a team decides to play farther away.

When are tryouts for St. Columbkille Crusaders Select Baseball?
Tryouts take place in July for the following calendar year and teams generally are filled at that time, but some teams may have 1-2 openings into the off-season. The teams are open to anyone, not just St. Columbkille parishioners, but parishioners are given preferential selection.

Why are teams open to everyone and not just St. Columbkille Parishioners?
The mission of St. Columbkille is "To Go and Make Disciples." Our athletic program is primarily for our parishioners but our bylaws allow for non-parishioners to participate if we do not have enough St Columbkille players to field a team. Most of these players come from other Catholic parishes who no longer field baseball teams due to the rise of select sports. We are giving opportunities to St. Columbkille boys to stay in the parish program and for other Catholics to play on a Catholic team. For the non-Catholics, it is an opportunity to expose them to our faith.
