The Legion of Mary strives to glorify God through the holiness of its members, developed by prayer and active cooperation in the work of Mary and the Church.

THE LEGION OF MARY

WHAT IS IT?
The largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 2 million active members in most every country of the world. In 2021, the Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary worldwide. It has been approved by the last six Popes.

WHAT DOES IT DO?
Its members participate in a balanced program of prayer and service in union with the Holy Spirit as He operates through Mary. Works may include visiting the elderly, taking Holy Communion to the homebound, assisting with evangelization efforts or spiritual needs within the parish and community, etc. It gives Catholics an opportunity to do something positive for the Church, while at the same time deepening their spiritual life and strengthening their faith.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
“Active” members gather once a week in a comfortable meeting setting for prayer, discussion of spiritual works and other aspects of faith, and planning events and various outreach efforts. They strive to do a couple hours of service work or volunteering each week as time allows, with a group or by themselves. “Auxiliary” members of the Legion are devoted to prayer, namely the rosary and the Legionary Tessera prayers daily or near daily as they are able. Auxiliary members are invited to larger Legion of Mary meetings/events several times a year.

WHO CAN BELONG?
Any Catholic, who would like to draw closer to Jesus and His Mother. All are welcome!

HOW DO I START?
Come to a meeting as a guest to see how the Legion works. All you need is a willingness to sacrifice a little of your time and energy for the greatest reason in the world: your love of God. If you’re already praying the rosary daily or near daily, contact us to receive a copy of the Tessera prayers and that’s all it takes to be signed up as an auxiliary member.

Meetings: Thursdays at 7:15-8:45 p.m. in the St. Columbkille’s Sacred Heart Center
