The Sacrament of Matrimony is a vocation – a public commitment between a man and a woman to spend a lifetime together – creating and nurturing life, and helping each other to become their best self in Jesus, in life and to others. The sacrament is a visible sign of God’s unconditional love for us and brings grace and joy to the new couple.

Planning a Wedding

First of all, the parish wishes to congratulate you on your love and commitment. Your desire to celebrate your wedding in the presence of the church and before God is commendable. Adding the graces of God to your human love will help insure the many blessings promised in that famous passage from St. Paul to the people in Corinth:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails”.

When our human love is combined with God’s love, then this kind of love is possible.

For more than 30 years, the Archdiocese of Omaha has asked all parishes to provide six months of marriage preparation for all couples who wish to be married in our local church. This preparation is our gift to couples and involves both a facilitated conversation using the FOCCUS instrument at the parish level and an educational component at the Archdiocesan level.

To help you with the planning of the wedding and ceremony, we offer you the following tools:

If you wish to schedule a wedding at our parish or participate in the marriage preparation process at St. Columbkille, please contact the parish at 402-339-3285.
